ταῦτʼ εἰπεῖν εἶχον, ἄνδρες φίλοι καὶ συμπόται τῶν Ἑλλήνων πολὺ πρῶτοι, περὶ ἀρχαίων συμποσίων ἐπιστάμενος. ἀκριβῶς δʼ σοφὸς Πλάτων ἐν τῷ πρώτῳ Νόμων περὶ συμποσίων διηγεῖται λέγων οὕτως· καὶ οὔτʼ ἂν ἐπʼ ἀγρῶν ἴδοις οὔτʼ ἐν ἄστεσιν ὅσων Σπαρτιάταις μέλει συμπόσια οὐδʼ ὁπόσα τούτοις ξυνεπόμενα πάσας ἡδονὰς κινεῖ κατὰ δύναμιν. οὐδʼ ἔστιν ὅστις ἂν ἀπαντῶν κωμάζοντί τινι μετὰ μέθης οὐκ ἂν τὴν μεγίστην δίκην εὐθὺς ἐπιθείη καὶ οὐδʼ ἂν Διονύσια πρόφασιν ἔχοντʼ αὐτὸν ῥύσαιτο, ὥσπερ ἐν ἁμάξαις εἶδον παρʼ ὑμῖν ἐγώ, καὶ ἐν Τάραντι δὲ παρὰ τοῖς ἡμετέροις ἀποίκοις πᾶσαν τὴν πόλιν ἐθεασάμην περὶ τὰ Διονύσια μεθύουσαν. ἐν Λακεδαίμονι οὐκ ἔστʼ οὐδὲν τοιοῦτον.

CTS URN Retriever

The CTS URN retriever is a tool for retrieving and citing paragraphs, passages, and words in the text of the Deipnosophists by typing the corresponding CTS URN. The Digital Athenaeus is providing the text of the Teubner edition of the Deipnosophists by Georg Kaibel (1887-1890), which is cataloged as perseus-grc2 in the Perseus Catalog.

The syntax of the URNs follows the specification of the CITE Architecture.
