περιεφέροντο καὶ ΕΡΙΦΟΙ πολλάκις ποικίλως ἐσκευασμένοι· ἄλλοι δὲ καὶ πολὺ τοῦ ὀποῦ ἔχοντες, οἵτινες οὐ τὴν τυχοῦσαν ἡδονὴν παρεῖχον ἡμῖν. καὶ γὰρ τὸ τοῦ αἰγὸς κρέας τροφιμώτατόν ἐστι. Κλειτόμαχος γοῦν Καρχηδόνιος οὐδενὸς δεύτερος τῶν ἀπὸ τῆς νέας Ἀκαδημείας κατὰ τὴν θεωρίαν ὢν Θηβαῖόν τινα ἀθλητὴν ὑπερβαλεῖν ἰσχύι φησὶ τοὺς καθʼ ἑαυτὸν κρέασιν αἰγείοις χρώμενον. εὔτονοι γὰρ καὶ γλίσχροι οἱ χυμοὶ καὶ πολὺν χρόνον ὑπομένειν ἐν τοῖς ὄγκοις δυνάμενοι. ἐσκώπτετο δὲ ἀθλητὴς διὰ τὴν ἀπὸ τῶν ἱδρώτων δυσωδίαν. τὰ δʼ ὕεια καὶ ἄρνεια κρέα ἀδιαπόνητα ταῖς ἕξεσιν ὑπάρχοντα ῥᾷστα φθείρεται διὰ τὴν πιμελήν. τὰ δὲ παρὰ τοῖς κωμῳδιοποιοῖς λεγόμενα δεῖπνα ἡδίστην ἀκοὴν παρέχει τοῖς ὠσὶ μᾶλλον τῇ φάρυγγι, ὥσπερ τὰ παρὰ Ἀντιφάνει μὲν ἐν Ἀκεστρίᾳ· κρέας δὲ τίνος ἥδιστʼ ἂν ἐσθίοις (φησίν); Β. τίνος; εἰς εὐτέλειαν. τῶν προβάτων μὲν οἷς ἔνι μήτʼ ἔρια μήτε τυρός, ἀρνός, φίλτατε. τῶν δʼ αἰγιδίων κατὰ ταὔθʼ μὴ τυρὸν ποιεῖ, ἐρίφου. διὰ τὴν ἐπικαρπίαν γὰρ τῶν ἁδρῶν ταῦτʼ ἐσθίων τὰ φαῦλʼ ἀνέχομαι. ἐν δὲ Κύκλωπί φησι· τῶν χερσαίων δʼ ὑμῖν ἥξει παρʼ ἐμοῦ ταυτί· βοῦς ἀγελαῖος, τράγος ὑλιβάτης, αἲξ οὐρανία, κριὸς τομίας, κάπρος ἐκτομίας, ὗς οὐ τομίας, δέλφαξ, δασύπους, ἔριφοι, .... τυρὸς χλωρός, τυρὸς ξηρός, τυρὸς κοπτός, τυρὸς ξυστός, τυρὸς τμητός, τυρὸς πηκτός.

CTS URN Retriever

The Digital Athenaeus is providing the text of the Teubner edition of the Deipnosophists by Georg Kaibel (1887-1890), which is cataloged as perseus-grc2 in the Perseus Catalog.

The syntax of the URNs follows the specification of the CITE Architecture.
