ἐπὶ τούτοις μάγειρος ἔφη· λέξω τοίνυν κἀγὼ οὐκ ἀρχαίαν ἐπίνοιαν, ἀλλʼ εὕρεσιν ἐμήν (ἵνα μὴ αὐλητὴς πληγὰς λάβῃ· γὰρ Εὔβουλος ἐν Λάκωσιν Λήδᾳ ἔφη· ἀλλʼ ἠκούσαμεν καὶ τοῦτο, νὴ τὴν Ἑστίαν, οἴκοι ποθʼ ὡς ὅσʼ ἂν μάγειρος ἐξαμάρτῃ, τύπτεται, ὥς φασιν, αὑλητὴς παρʼ ὑμῖν. Φιλύλλιός τε ποιήσας τὰς Πόλεις φησίν· τι ἂν τύχῃ μάγειρος ἀδικήσας, τὸν αὐλητὴν λαβεῖν πληγάς) περὶ ἡμιόπτου καὶ ἡμιέφθου καὶ ἀσφάκτου γεμιστοῦ χοίρου. μὲν χοῖρος ἐσφάγη ὑπὸ τὸν ὦμον σφαγὴν βραχεῖαν, καὶ ἐπέδειξεν. ἔπειτα ἀπορρεύσαντος τοῦ πολλοῦ αἵματος πάντα τὰ ἐντοσθίδια μετὰ τῆς ἐξαιρέσεως (εἴρηται γὰρ καὶ ἐξαίρεσις, στωμυλῆθραι δαιταλεῖς) διακλύσας ἐπιμελῶς οἴνῳ πολλάκις ἐκρέμασα ἐκ ποδῶν. εἶτα πάλιν οἴνῳ διέβρεξα καὶ προεψήσας μετὰ πολλοῦ πιπέρεως τὰ προειρημένα χναυμάτια ἔβυσα διὰ τοῦ στόματος, πολλὸν ἐπιχέας ζωμὸν εὖ πάνυ πεποιημένον. καὶ μετὰ ταῦτα περιέπλασα τοῦ χοίρου τὴν ἡμίσειαν, ὡς ὁρᾶτε, ἀλφίτοις πολλοῖς κριθῆς ἀναδεύσας αὐτὰ οἴνῳ καὶ ἐλαίῳ. ἔπειτʼ ἐνέθηκα κριβάνῳ ὑποθεὶς τράπεζαν χαλκῆν ἐστάθευσά τε τῷ πυρί, ὡς μήτε κατακαῦσαι μήτʼ ὠμὸν ἀφελεῖν. καὶ τῆς φορίνης ἤδη γενομένης κραμβαλέας εἴκασα καὶ τἄλλο μέρος ἡψῆσθαι ἀποβαλών τʼ αὐτοῦ τὰ ἄλφιτα οὕτω φέρων ὑμῖν παρέθηκα.

The Digital Athenaeus is providing the text of the Teubner edition of the Deipnosophists by Georg Kaibel (1887-1890), which is cataloged as perseus-grc2 in the Perseus Catalog.

The syntax of the URNs follows the specification of the CITE Architecture.
