Ἀντιφάνης δʼ ἐν Λημνίαις τέχνην τινὰ εἶναι ὑποτίθεται τὴν κολακείαν εἶναι ἐν οἷς λέγει ἐν ταῖς Λημνίαις· εἶτʼ ἔστιν γένοιτʼ ἂν ἡδίων τέχνη πρόσοδος ἄλλη τοῦ κολακεύειν εὐφυῶς; ζωγράφος πονεῖ τι καὶ πικραίνεται, γεωργὸς ..............., ........ ἐν ὅσοις ἐστὶ κινδύνοις πάλιν· πρόσεστι πᾶσιν ἐπιμέλεια καὶ πόνος. ἡμῖν δὲ μετὰ γέλωτος βίος καὶ τρυφῆς· οὗ γὰρ τὸ μέγιστον ἔργον ἐστὶ παιδιά, ἁδρὸν γελάσαι, σκῶψαί τινʼ, ἐμπιεῖν πολύν, οὐχ ἡδύ; ἐμοὶ μὲν μετὰ τὸ πλουτεῖν δεύτερον. κεχαρακτήρικε δὲ ὡς ἔνι μάλιστα ἐπιμελῶς τὸν κόλακα Μένανδρος ἐν τῷ ὁμωνύμῳ δράματι, ὡς καὶ τὸν παράσιτον Δίφιλος ἐν Τελεσίᾳ. Ἄλεξις δʼ ἐν Καταψευδομένῳ λέγοντά τινα κόλακα τοιαῦτα παρεισάγων φησίν· εὐδαίμων ἐγώ, μὰ τὸν Δία τὸν Ὀλύμπιον καὶ τὴν Ἀθηνᾶν, οὐχ ὅτι ἐν τοῖς γάμοισιν, ἄνδρες, εὐωχήσομαι, ἀλλʼ ὅτι διαρραγήσομʼ, ἂν θεὸς θέλῃ· τούτου δέ μοι γένοιτο τοῦ θανάτου τυχεῖν. δοκεῖ δέ μοι οὗτος, ἄνδρες φίλοι, καλὸς γάστρις οὐκ ἂν ὠκνηκέναι εἰπεῖν καὶ τὰ ἐξ Ὀμφάλης Ἴωνος τοῦ τραγῳδιοποιοῦ· ἐνιαυσίαν γὰρ δεῖ με τὴν ἑορτὴν ἄγειν. οἷον καθημερινήν

CTS URN Retriever

The CTS URN retriever is a tool for retrieving and citing paragraphs, passages, and words in the text of the Deipnosophists by typing the corresponding CTS URN. The Digital Athenaeus is providing the text of the Teubner edition of the Deipnosophists by Georg Kaibel (1887-1890), which is cataloged as perseus-grc2 in the Perseus Catalog.

The syntax of the URNs follows the specification of the CITE Architecture.

Using CTS URNs, it is possible to export citations of the Deipnosophists down to the word level. By selecting a portion of text holding down the ALT-key, users get a pop-up window with the CTS URN that identifies the selected chunk of text.
