ὅτι Φύλαρχός φησι Θεόδωρον τὸν Λαρισσαῖον ὑδροπότην γενέσθαι, τὸν ἀλλοτρίως ἀεί ποτε πρὸς Ἀντίγονον ἐσχηκότα τὸν βασιλέα. φησὶ δὲ καὶ ἐν τῇ ζʹ τοὺς Ἴβηρας πάντας ὑδροποτεῖν καίτοι πλουσιωτάτους ἀνθρώπων ὄντας, μονοσιτεῖν τε αὐτοὺς ἀεὶ λέγει διὰ μικρολογίαν, ἐσθῆτας δὲ φορεῖν πολυτελεστάτας. Ἀριστοτέλης δʼ Θεόφραστος Φιλῖνόν τινα ἱστορεῖ μήτε ποτῷ χρήσασθαί ποτε μήτε ἐδέσματι ἄλλῳ μόνῳ γάλακτι πάντα τὸν βίον. Πύθερμος δὲ ἐν τοῖς Πειραιῶς τυραννεύουσι καταγράφει καὶ Γλαύκωνα ὑδροπότην. Ἡγήσανδρος δʼ Δελφὸς Ἀγχίμολον καὶ Μόσχον φησὶ τοὺς ἐν Ἤλιδι σοφιστεύσαντας ὑδροποτῆσαι πάντα τὸν βίον καὶ μόνα σῦκα προσφερομένους οὐδενὸς ἧττον διακεῖσθαι σώμασιν ἐρρωμενεστέρους· τὸν δʼ ἱδρῶτα αὐτῶν δυσώδη οὕτως ἔχειν ὡς πάντας αὐτοὺς ἐκκλίνειν ἐν τοῖς βαλανείοις. Μᾶτρις δʼ Θηβαῖος ὃν ἐβίω χρόνον οὐδὲν ἐσιτεῖτο μυρρίνης ὀλίγον, οἴνου δὲ καὶ τῶν ἄλλων πάντων ἀπείχετο πλὴν ὕδατος. ὑδροπότης δʼ ἦν καὶ Λάμπρος μουσικός, περὶ οὗ Φρύνιχός φησι· καὶ νιγλάρους θρηνεῖν, ἐν οἷσι Λάμπρος ἐναπέθνῃσκεν, ἄνθρωπος ὢν ὑδατοπότης, μινυρὸς ὑπερσοφιστής, Μουσῶν σκελετός, ἀηδόνων ἠπίαλος, ὕμνος Ἅιδου. CTS URN Retriever

The CTS URN retriever is a tool for retrieving and citing paragraphs, passages, and words in the text of the Deipnosophists by typing the corresponding CTS URN. The Digital Athenaeus is providing the text of the Teubner edition of the Deipnosophists by Georg Kaibel (1887-1890), which is cataloged as perseus-grc2 in the Perseus Catalog.

The syntax of the URNs follows the specification of the CITE Architecture.

Using CTS URNs, it is possible to export citations of the Deipnosophists down to the word level. By selecting a portion of text holding down the ALT-key, users get a pop-up window with the CTS URN that identifies the selected chunk of text.
