τοσαῦτα οἰνολογήσαντος ἤτοι περὶ οἴνων εἰπόντος· λαφύσσοντος οἴνων ὀνόματα. οὐ χαίρει τῷ πόματι ἐκ πρώτης ἐθισθεὶς ἀνατροφῆς ὑδροποτεῖν. ἡδὺ .. ἐστʼ ἐν δαιτὶ καὶ εἰλαπίνῃ τεθαλυίῃ τέρπεσθαι μύθοισιν, ἐπὴν δαιτὸς κορέσωνται, Ἡσίοδος ἐν τῇ Μελαμποδίᾳ φησίν οὔ τινι ὑμῶν ἐπῆλθε περὶ ὕδατος εἰπεῖν τι ..... ἀφʼ ὧν καὶ οἶνος ἀφύεται, καίτοι Πινδάρου τοῦ μεγαλοφωνοτάτου ἄριστον πάντων εἶναι τὸ ὕδωρ φήσαντος Ὅμηρος μὲν οὖν θειότατος καὶ τροφιμώτατον αὐτὸ οἶδεν ἐν οἷς αἰγείρων ὑδατοτρεφέων ἄλσος λέγει. ἐπαινεῖ δὲ καὶ τὸ διαυγὲς αὐτοῦ· κρῆναι πίσυρες ῥέον ὕδατι λευκῷ. τὸ δὲ δὴ κοῦφον καὶ πλείονος τιμῆς ἄξιον ἱμερτὸν καλεῖ· ἱμερτὸν οὖν φησι τὸν Τιταρήσιον, ὃς τῷ Πηνειῷ συμμίσγεται καὶ τοῦ ῥυπτικοῦ δὲ ὕδατος μέμνηται· ἀποδεχόμενος καὶ Πραξαγόρας Κῷος ... καλὸν εἶναι λέγει· καλὸν ὑπεκπρορέει μάλα περ ῥυπόωντα καθῆραι. διαστέλλει δὲ καὶ γλυκὺ ὕδωρ ἀπὸ πλατέος, τὸν μὲν Ἑλλήσποντον εἶναι λέγων πλατύν, ὑπὲρ δὲ θατέρου φράζων στήσαμεν νῆας ἀγχοῦ ὕδατος γλυκεροῖο.

CTS URN Retriever

The Digital Athenaeus is providing the text of the Teubner edition of the Deipnosophists by Georg Kaibel (1887-1890), which is cataloged as perseus-grc2 in the Perseus Catalog.

The syntax of the URNs follows the specification of the CITE Architecture.

Using CTS URNs, it is possible to export citations of the Deipnosophists down to the word level. By selecting a portion of text holding down the ALT-key, users get a pop-up window with the CTS URN that identifies the selected chunk of text.
