ταῦτά σοι παραινεῖν ἔχω, ἑταῖρε Μυρτίλε. καὶ κατὰ τὴν Φιλεταίρου Κυνηγίδα παῦσαι γέρων ὢν τοὺς τρόπους. οὐκ οἶσθʼ ὅτι οὔκ ἐστιν ἥδιστον ἀποθανεῖν βινοῦνθʼ ἅμα, ὥσπερ λέγουσιν ἀποθανεῖν Φορμίσιον. ἥδιστόν ἐστί σοι, ὡς ἐν Μαραθωνίοις φησὶ Τιμοκλῆς, ὅσον τὸ μεταξὺ μετὰ κορίσκης μετὰ χαμαιτύπης τὴν νύκτα κοιμᾶσθαι. βαβαί, στιφρότης, τὸ χρῶμα, πνεῦμα, δαίμονες. τὸ μὴ σφόδρʼ εἶναι πάνθʼ ἕτοιμα, δεῖν δέ τι ἀγωνιᾶσαι καὶ ῥαπισθῆναί τε καὶ πληγὰς λαβεῖν ἁπαλαῖσι χερσίν· ἡδύ γε νὴ τὸν Δία τὸν μέγιστον. ἔτι πολλὰ τοῦ Κυνούλκου θέλοντος λέγειν καὶ τοὐλπιανοῦ ἐπιραπίσαι βουληθέντος αὐτὸν εἰς τιμὴν τοῦ Μυρτίλου, φθάσας Μυρτίλος (διήχθρευεν γὰρ τῷ Σύρῳ) ἔφη· οὐχ ὧδʼ ἐμόγησαν ἐλπίδες ὥστʼ ἐχθρῶν συμμαχίαν καλέσαι, φησὶν Καλλίμαχος οὐ γὰρ αὐτάρκεις ἡμεῖς ἀμύνασθαι, Κύνουλκε; ὡς σκαιὸς εἶ κἄγροικος αἰσχροεπῶν· ἔα, ἐπαρίστερʼ ἐν τῷ στόματι τὴν γλῶσσαν φορεῖς, κατὰ τὴν Ἐφίππου Φιλύραν δοκεῖς γάρ μοι ἐκείνων εἷς εἶναι οὓς ἐδίδαξαν ἀριστερὰ γράμματα Μοῦσαι, ὥς τις ἔφη τῶν παρῳδῶν

CTS URN Retriever

The CTS URN retriever is a tool for retrieving and citing paragraphs, passages, and words in the text of the Deipnosophists by typing the corresponding CTS URN. The Digital Athenaeus is providing the text of the Teubner edition of the Deipnosophists by Georg Kaibel (1887-1890), which is cataloged as perseus-grc2 in the Perseus Catalog.

The syntax of the URNs follows the specification of the CITE Architecture.

Using CTS URNs, it is possible to export citations of the Deipnosophists down to the word level. By selecting a portion of text holding down the ALT-key, users get a pop-up window with the CTS URN that identifies the selected chunk of text.
