Μίμνερμος δὲ Ναννοῖ ἐν εὐνῇ φησι χρυσῇ κατεσκευασμένῃ πρὸς τὴν χρείαν ταύτην ὑπὸ Ἡφαίστου τὸν Ἥλιον καθεύδοντα περαιοῦσθαι πρὸς τὰς ἀνατολάς, αἰνισσόμενος τὸ κοῖλον τοῦ ποτηρίου. λέγει δʼ οὕτως· Ἠέλιος μὲν γὰρ ἔλαχεν πόνον ἤματα πάντα, οὐδέ ποτʼ ἄμπαυσις γίνεται οὐδεμία ἵπποισίν τε καὶ αὐτῷ, ἐπὴν ῥοδοδάκτυλος Ἠὼς ὠκεανὸν προλιποῦσʼ οὐρανὸν εἰσαναβῇ· τὸν μὲν γὰρ διὰ κῦμα φέρει πολυήρατος εὐνή, ποικίλη Ἡφαίστου χερσὶν ἐληλαμένη χρυσοῦ τιμήεντος, ὑπόπτερος, ἄκρον ἐφʼ ὕδωρ εὕδονθʼ ἁρπαλέως χώρου ἀφʼ Ἑσπερίδων γαῖαν ἐς Αἰθιόπων, ἵνα δὴ θοὸν ἅρμα καὶ ἵπποι ἑστᾶσʼ, ὄφρʼ Ἠὼς ἠριγένεια μόλῃ. ἔνθʼ ἐπέβη ἑτέρων ὀχέων Ὑπερίονος υἱός. Θεόλυτος δʼ ἐν δευτέρῳ Ὥρων ἐπὶ λέβητός φησιν αὐτὸν διαπλεῦσαι, τοῦτο πρώτου εἰπόντος τοῦ τὴν Τιτανομαχίαν ποιήσαντος Φερεκύδης δʼ ἐν τῇ τρίτῃ τῶν Ἱστοριῶν προειπὼν περὶ τοῦ Ὠκεανοῦ ἐπιφέρει· δʼ Ἡρακλῆς ἕλκεται ἐπʼ αὐτὸν τὸ τόξον ὡς βαλῶν, καὶ Ἥλιος παύσασθαι κελεύει, δὲ δείσας παύεται. Ἥλιος δὲ ἀντὶ τούτου δίδωσιν αὐτῷ τὸ δέπας τὸ χρύσεον, αὐτὸν ἐφόρει σὺν ταῖς ἵπποις, ἐπὴν δύνῃ, διὰ τοῦ Ὠκεανοῦ τὴν νύκτα πρὸς ἑῴην, ἵνʼ ἀνίσχει ἥλιος. ἔπειτα πορεύεται Ἡρακλῆς ἐν τῷ δέπαι τούτῳ ἐς τὴν Ἐρύθειαν. καὶ ὅτε δὲ ἦν ἐν τῷ πελάγει, Ὠκεανὸς πειρώμενος αὐτοῦ κυμαίνει τὸ δέπας φανταζόμενος. δὲ τοξεύειν αὐτὸν μέλλει, καὶ αὐτὸν δείσας Ὠκεανὸς παύσασθαι κελεύει.

CTS URN Retriever

The Digital Athenaeus is providing the text of the Teubner edition of the Deipnosophists by Georg Kaibel (1887-1890), which is cataloged as perseus-grc2 in the Perseus Catalog.

The syntax of the URNs follows the specification of the CITE Architecture.

Using CTS URNs, it is possible to export citations of the Deipnosophists down to the word level. By selecting a portion of text holding down the ALT-key, users get a pop-up window with the CTS URN that identifies the selected chunk of text.
