ὅτι διὰ σπουδῆς εἶχον οἱ ἀρχαῖοι ἐγκόλαπτον ἱστορίαν ἔχειν ἐν ἐκπώμασιν. ἐν ταύτῃ δὲ τῇ τέχνῃ εὐδοκίμησαν Κίμων καὶ Ἀθηνοκλῆς. ἐχρῶντο δὲ καὶ λιθοκολλήτοις ἐκπώμασι. Μένανδρος δέ πού φησι καὶ ποτήριον τορνευτὸν καὶ τορευτά. Ἀντιφάνης· ἄλλοι δὲ καὶ δὴ βακχίου παλαιγενοῦς ἀφρῷ σκιὰ καὶ χρυσοκόλλητον δέπας μεστὸν κύκλῳ χορεῦον ἕλκουσι γνάθοις ὁλκῆς ἀπαύστοις, παντελῶς ἐστραμμένον τἄνω κάτω δεικνύντες. φησὶ πρός τινα Νικόμαχος· χαῖρε χρυσόκλυστα καὶ χρυσοῦς ἐμῶν. Φιλιππίδης· τὰ ποτήριʼ ἂν ἴδῃς τὰ παρεσκευασμένα· ἅπαντα χρυσᾶ, Τρόφιμε, νὴ τὸν Οὐρανόν, ὑπερήφανα. ἐγὼ μὲν γὰρ ἐξέστην ἰδών. κρατῆρες ἀργυροῖ, κάδοι καὶ μείζους ἐμοῦ ... ὅτι Παρμενίων συγκεφαλαιούμενος ἐν ταῖς πρὸς Ἀλέξανδρον Ἐπιστολαῖς τὰ Περσικὰ λάφυρα ποτηρίων, φησί, χρυσῶν σταθμὸς τάλαντα Βαβυλώνια ογʹ, μναῖ νβʹ. ποτηρίων λιθοκολλήτων σταθμὸς τάλαντα Βαβυλώνια νϛʹ, μναῖ λδʹ.

CTS URN Retriever

The CTS URN retriever is a tool for retrieving and citing paragraphs, passages, and words in the text of the Deipnosophists by typing the corresponding CTS URN. The Digital Athenaeus is providing the text of the Teubner edition of the Deipnosophists by Georg Kaibel (1887-1890), which is cataloged as perseus-grc2 in the Perseus Catalog.

The syntax of the URNs follows the specification of the CITE Architecture.

Using CTS URNs, it is possible to export citations of the Deipnosophists down to the word level. By selecting a portion of text holding down the ALT-key, users get a pop-up window with the CTS URN that identifies the selected chunk of text.
