ἔπινον οἱ πολλοὶ καὶ ἄλφιτα ἐπιβάλλοντες τῷ οἴνῳ, ὡς Δελφὸς Ἡγήσανδρος φησίν Ἐπίνικος γοῦν, Μνησιπτολέμου ἀνάγνωσιν ποιησαμένου τῶν ἱστοριῶν, ἐν αἷς ἐγέγραπτο ὡς Σέλευκος ἐπηλφίτωσε, γράψας δρᾶμα Μνησιπτόλεμον καὶ κωμῳδῶν αὐτὸν καὶ περὶ τῆς πόσεως ταῖς ἐκείνου χρώμενος φωναῖς ἐποίησε λέγοντα· ἐπʼ ἀλφίτου πίνοντα τοῦ θέρους ποτὲ ἰδὼν Σέλευκον ἡδέως τὸν βασιλέα ἔγραψα καὶ παρέδειξα τοῖς πολλοῖς ὅτι κἂν τὸ τυχὸν πραγμάτιον σφόδρʼ εὐτελές, σεμνὸν δύναται τοῦθʼ δύναμις ʼμὴ ποιεῖν. γέροντα Θάσιον τόν τε γῆς ἀπʼ Ἀτθίδος ἑσμὸν μελίσσης τῆς ἀκραχόλου γλυκὺν συγκυρκανήσας ἐν σκύφῳ χυτῆς λίθου, Δήμητρος ἀκτῇ πᾶν γεφυρώσας ὑγρόν, κατῃσίμωσα πῶμα, καύματος λύσιν. δʼ αὐτὸς ἱστορεῖ κἀν Θηράσι ταῖς νήσοις ἐπιπάττοντας λέκιθον ἀντὶ ἀλφίτου πίνειν, καὶ λέγεσθαι ταύτην τὴν πόσιν καλλίονα τῆς ἐξ ἀλφίτων.

CTS URN Retriever

The Digital Athenaeus is providing the text of the Teubner edition of the Deipnosophists by Georg Kaibel (1887-1890), which is cataloged as perseus-grc2 in the Perseus Catalog.

The syntax of the URNs follows the specification of the CITE Architecture.

Using CTS URNs, it is possible to export citations of the Deipnosophists down to the word level. By selecting a portion of text holding down the ALT-key, users get a pop-up window with the CTS URN that identifies the selected chunk of text.
