πίνειν δʼ εἰς μέθην, φησὶν ἐν ἕκτῳ Νόμων Πλάτων, οὔτε ἄλλοθί που πρέπει πλὴν ἐν ταῖς τοῦ τὸν οἶνον δόντος θεοῦ ἑορταῖς οὐδʼ ἀσφαλές, οὔτʼ οὖν περὶ γάμους ἐσπουδακότα, ἐν οἷς ἔμφρονα εἶναι πρέπει μάλιστα νύμφην καὶ νυμφίον μεταβολὴν βίου οὐ μικρὰν μεταλλάτοντας, ἅμα δὲ καὶ τὸ γεννώμενον ὅπως ὅτι μάλιστα ἐξ ἐμφρόνων αἰεὶ γίγνηται. σχεδὸν γὰρ ἄδηλον ὁποία νὺξ φῶς αὐτὸ γεννήσει. κἀν τῷ αʹ δὲ τῶν Νόμων φησί· μέθης δὲ αὐτῆς, ὥσπερ Λυδοὶ χρῶνται καὶ Πέρσαι καὶ Καρχηδόνιοι καὶ Κελτοὶ καὶ Ἴβηρες καὶ Θρᾷκες καὶ τὰ τοιαῦτα γένη, καθάπερ ὑμεῖς, Λακεδαιμόνιοι, τὸ παράπαν ἀπέχεσθε. Σκύθαι δὲ καὶ Θρᾷκες ἀκράτῳ παντάπασι χρώμενοι, γυναῖκές τε καὶ πάντες αὐτοί, καὶ κατὰ τῶν ἱματίων καταχεόμενοι καλὸν καὶ εὔδαιμον ἐπιτήδευμα ἐπιτηδεύειν νενομίκασι. Πέρσαι δὲ καὶ σφόδρα μὲν χρῶνται καὶ ταῖς ἄλλαις τρυφαῖς, ἃς ὑμεῖς ἀποβάλλετε, ἐν τάξει δὲ μᾶλλον τούτων.

CTS URN Retriever

The Digital Athenaeus is providing the text of the Teubner edition of the Deipnosophists by Georg Kaibel (1887-1890), which is cataloged as perseus-grc2 in the Perseus Catalog.

The syntax of the URNs follows the specification of the CITE Architecture.

Using CTS URNs, it is possible to export citations of the Deipnosophists down to the word level. By selecting a portion of text holding down the ALT-key, users get a pop-up window with the CTS URN that identifies the selected chunk of text.
